Beware of a New Scam: Fake Multi-Sig “Unlocking” Fraud
2025-09-28
Recently, we have received feedback from users about a new scam targeting mainstream wallet users. Please remain vigilant:
When a user’s TRON address has been turned into a multi-signature account, scammers will send a spam transaction to that address. In the transaction memo, they leave their Telegram username and claim they can help the user “unlock” or “resolve” the multi-signature issue.
In reality, an account is made multi-signature because the mnemonic phrase has been compromised (common reasons include downloading a fake wallet or storing the mnemonic phrase online). The scammers’ so-called “unlocking service” is completely fraudulent; once a user contacts them, they are likely to incur further asset losses.
Please note: any third party claiming they can unlock multi-signature is a scammer.
How to avoid being maliciously made multi-signature?
1. Keep your mnemonic phrase and private key secure and confidential to ensure they are not leaked.
2. Do not disclose your mnemonic phrase or private key to any person or website to prevent phishing attacks.
3. Only download wallet software from the official website. Do not use Baidu, Google, or other search engines to find download links, as this may lead to installing a fake wallet.
What to do if your permissions have been changed?
Once an address has been maliciously made multi-signature, you can no longer transfer assets from it. The best you can do is cut your losses promptly.
1. Transfer assets from any other addresses corresponding to your mnemonic phrase that have not had their permissions changed to a secure address. Confirm that the wallet app of the secure address was downloaded from the official source, ensuring it is the genuine app.
2. Do not use the address whose permissions have been changed, or its associated account, to receive any assets.
3. Report to the police immediately, providing truthful details about how and where you downloaded the wallet (including URLs) and a detailed account of how you stored your mnemonic phrase and all usage history.
